College Football: Best Bets to Win the 2022-23 National Championship

Ohio State Buckeyes (+300 at DraftKings)

CFB Week 1 2022: Notre Dame vs. Ohio State

Our DimersBOT gives Ohio State the third-best chance of anyone to win it all this season, but we'd rather back the Buckeyes at these odds than the Crimson Tide at theirs. While the Big Ten is no cakewalk, it's certainly going to be easier for Ohio State to handle its business than it is for Alabama or Georgia to handle theirs.

The Buckeyes also happen to return a lot of the stars that helped them average the most points per game (45.5) in college football last year, with quarterback C.J. Stroud (the Heisman Trophy favorite), running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba all back to terrorize opposing defenses. But perhaps more importantly, the Buckeyes also get back eight returning starters on defense.

If they can take things to another level on that side of the ball, the sky is the limit for this team. And considering Ohio State brought in Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to lead its defense, it's pretty likely the Buckeyes will be scary on that side of the ball.

Clemson Tigers (+1000 at DraftKings)

CFB Week 1 2022: Clemson vs. Georgia Tech

The Tigers are coming off of a down year in which they still managed to win 10 games and went out on a positive note in earning a 20-13 win over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl. Now, Dabo Swinney's team gets 15 starters back from that squad, and the reality is that this team can be as good as any in the nation as long as it gets some improved play at the quarterback position.

Whether it's D.J. Uiagalelei or Cade Klubnik that finishes the year as the starter, you won't regret holding a futures ticket on Clemson when the end of the year rolls around. The Tigers have a very realistic shot at finishing the regular season undefeated — DimersBOT gives them a 46.8% chance of winning the ACC — and they'll be brimming with confidence by the time the College Football Playoff starts creeping up.

Texas A&M Aggies (+3000 at DraftKings)

Much like Clemson, Texas A&M is also some improved quarterback play away from being a legitimate championship contender. The Aggies have two good options in Haynes King and former LSU starter Max Johnson, so this situation should ultimately work itself out.

The question here is whether or not Texas A&M can find a way to make sure that a road date with Alabama on October 8 doesn't end its season. The Aggies need to either win that game or win all of the others in order to have a shot at winning a title, but we don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Jimbo Fisher is one of the best head coaches in the entire country and he has been recruiting his butt off in College Station. This team has as much talent on both sides of the ball as anyone and it's only a matter of time before the Aggies break through and win one. Why not take the shot on it being this year? These odds are crazy enticing.

Oklahoma Sooners (+4000 at DraftKings)

CFB Week 1 2022: UTEP vs. Oklahoma

One of the more exciting dark-horse picks to win it all this year is Oklahoma, which is now being led by former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Venables, who was an assistant with the Sooners from 1999 to 2011, is one of the best defensive head coaches in the country, so he'll be tasked with making sure Oklahoma is a force on that side of the ball this year.

If he can hold up his end of the bargain, it's hard to imagine the Sooners not making waves this season. With UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel quarterbacking an offense that is now coached by Jeff Lebby, the man behind last year's explosive Ole Miss offense, Oklahoma is going to put up a ton of points — especially considering star wideout Marvin Mims is back to catch passes.

All in all, there's obviously a chance this doesn't pan out the way it's meant to, but the Sooners have as much upside as anyone.
